Back when I was at Simon's Rock College, oral tradition had it that this abandoned church a few miles from the school was the church featured prominently in the lyrics to "Alice's Restaurant" by Arlo Guthrie. So I took Rick past it to surprise him with this little piece of history. We got a double surprise: the church is no longer abandoned: it is now the Guthrie Center for folk music! And that very night, according to the flyer posted outside it, was to be a party for Arlo Guthrie: CD release ("In Times Like These") / 60th birthday / fundraiser. Which would explain the car parked outside. Probably a fan, since, kayfrancis2 says Arlo doesn't live in NJ.
